Greatest Dad Contest Winners Announced

More and more people are starting to realize the impact a good father can have on a child. In June 2004, the Colom Foundation, Alpha Phi Alpha Service Fraternity and Cumulus Broadcasting joined forces to sponsor the World’s Greatest Dad Contest, a way for children to voice their appreciation for the significance of their fathers to their lives.

The three contest winners were honored at a special recognition ceremony at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, at Cumulus Broadcasting in Court Square Towers, Columbus, Miss.

“ More and more people are starting to realize the impact a good father can have on a child,” said Wilbur O. Colom, President of the Colom Foundation. “We wanted to give voice to the deep appreciation people of all ages feel towards their fathers.”

The winners of the Greatest Dad contest were: Mr. Percy Brooks of Macon, nominated by his daughter, Mrs. Lillian Townsend; Mr. Early Bynum of Houston, Mississippi, nominated by his daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Bynum Holmes; and Rev. William Andrew Headd of Starkville, nominated by his son, Mr. Andrew Headd.

They received awards of recognition at a ceremony at Cumulus Broadcasting, Court Square Towers.
